They say firsts are always special, and I couldn’t agree more! Saathi has always been the special first, my first internship and my first job! I remember doom-scrolling LinkedIn because I felt like I was lagging and needed to catch up with the rest of my classmates, who had already found internships. I was on a hunt for internship opportunities, and I thought I could write well. I came across a hiring post from Saathi and thought - let’s give it a shot! So, I applied, navigated the selection process, and got in! Here comes my first internship as a content writer! And almost three years later, I rejoined Saathi - but this time for a job!
How it Started: From "Doom-scrolling" to Finding My Spark
Since Day one, my ideas have always been welcomed! I was exposed to various aspects of writing and content creation during my five-month internship. Just when I thought I knew something, there was always more to learn! I did preliminary research, came up with new topics to cover, and was also assigned some social media management. Here’s when and where I developed a liking, rather a passion for the field of Environment, and Menstruation (Women’s Health). Being very closely associated with social media content, I always thought it was only about the number of likes and shares. But after working closely with my seniors here, I realized that it's much more. So many things came into the picture, like the purpose of your content, IG’s ever-changing algorithm patterns, and so many other things! So I learned to put my best foot forward and keep helping to create helpful and impactful content.
Even after my internship at Saathi had ended, I was in touch with my seniors here! We had video chats a few times after my internship, and that made me feel special. I realised how much employees are valued here and how much I missed working with all of them. I remember Kristin (Saathi's Co-founder) personally telling me to give her a call once I finish college. My graduation went by, and I was on a hunt again when it hit me! I had a call to make…
I returned wholeheartedly to Saathi with more experience and new ambitions! Even if I came back after two years, I felt like nothing had changed. The same drive to create meaningful content and the warmth of people at Saathi, everything was perfect, just like before. I began my role, was handed over more responsibilities than before, and naturally, expectations were also high! I am tackling them one after another, with the guidance of my seniors here and now, and I am coordinating with new members of our content team. It feels like I have come full circle! But my learning won't stop here.
The Saathi Way: Building a Career Where It’s Safe to Grow
Here’s what I can vouch for, definitely: you will enjoy working here. You will not just do assignments one after the other, but you will also get to know your online colleagues, have fun meetings with seniors, and fall in love with the kind of work and impact Saathi has done! I always feel, when you are surrounded by optimistic and supportive seniors at your workplace, your work becomes 10X better and fun! This not only lightens your mood and eases panic while working but also motivates you to go the extra mile whenever needed! And I say this with so much confidence because I’ve also experienced the other way round. An earlier internship taught me how a lack of support can seriously lower morale, and I was convinced of the fact that a positive team dynamic is truly invaluable.
Yes, there will always be mistakes, misunderstandings, and differences of opinion. But here, I was never made to feel bad for the mistakes I made. They were always handled in a respectful, professional, and kind manner. This kind of environment, where work is taken seriously but there's also room for humor & human connection, is a sign of a healthy and balanced team. The fact that a daily updates meeting can occasionally turn into an impromptu office tour or a casual conversation shows that people feel comfortable and are building genuine relationships. Hence, I learned from the best around me, and now I try (emphasize on try) to implement the same while handling similar situations.
A Full-Circle Moment: Guiding the Next Generation
The journey from a Content intern to my current role as a Jr. Communications Trainee has been special. I am getting a chance to work with different kinds of people both times, and I find it rewarding to guide the new faces at Saathi. And the best thing? You are contributing to shed light on and address such crucial issues as Menstruation and Sustainability! The list will go on, but the takeaway is simple - and here’s a tip - If you ever get the chance to work at Saathi-don’t think twice. It’s a place where your work matters, your voice is heard, and your growth is nurtured.
