Saathi Eco Innovations Named to Fast Company’s Annual List of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2019

Ahmedabad, Gujarat (February 20, 2019) -- Saathi has been named to Fast Company’s prestigious annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2019.

The list honors the businesses making the most profound impact on both industry and culture, showcasing a variety of ways to thrive in today’s volatile world. Half of the companies on this year’s MIC 50 list are appearing for the first time.

“We are delighted with the honor of being selected by Fast Company for such a prestigious list and thrilled to share the vision for sustainable products on such a widely recognized platform. We hope others will think of ways to be more sustainable as it only helps us in the future.” - Kristin Kagetsu, CEO & Co-Founder, Saathi

Saathi began in 2015, when its four co-founders, Kristin Kagetsu, Tarun Bothra, Amrita Saigal, and Grace Kane - graduates of MIT, Harvard and Nirma University - came together on a mission to create eco-friendly, 100% compostable sanitary napkins, using locally sourced banana fiber. We were inspired by the idea of increasing women's access to sanitary pads and improving women’s health in India. Since 2015, Saathi has been recognized for a variety of prestigious awards, such as Expo 2020 Dubai (Live Grantee 2018), Toilet Board Coalition (Winner 2019), and Cartier Women Initiative Awards (Finalist 2018).

“It is encouraging to be rewarded for all of our hard work. But we are most proud of the spotlight it will give to all the women we are working with in our facility, as well as in rural areas to bring more healthy and eco-friendly products to women who need it most.” - Tarun Bothra, CTO & Co-Founder, Saathi

This year, Fast Company’s editors and writers sought out groundbreaking businesses across 35 industries and every region. They also judged nominations received through their application process.

The World’s Most Innovative Companies is Fast Company’s signature franchise and one of its most highly anticipated editorial efforts of the year. It provides both a snapshot and a road map for the future of innovation across the most dynamic sectors of the economy.

“Established players are showing the same kind of nimbleness that we’ve generally associated with startups,” said Fast Company deputy editor David Lidsky, who oversaw the issue with senior editor Amy Farley.

Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies issue (March-April 2019) is now available online here, as well as in app form via iTunes and on newsstands beginning February 27th. The hashtag is #fcmostinnovative.

ABOUT SAATHI

Saathi is an award-winning, UN recognized, sustainable manufacturing company in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. We are making the first completely biodegradable and compostable sanitary pads from waste banana tree fibre.  Our vision is to be a leader in sustainable manufacturing as our technology can be used not just for sanitary pads but also other absorbents, to ensure they are good not only for the earth but our bodies as well. Our innovative business is sustainable and built on the foundation of being a green business. We are pioneering in our circular economy model and have been practicing eco friendly manufacturing since before.  government policies have shifted towards greener manufacturing. We have a multi-layered impact throughout our supply chain: banana farmers receive additional income, consumers are able to use an all natural product which doesn't cause irritation or rashes, and finally we have a product that is compostable and therefore doesn't have any negative impact on the environment either through plastic waste or CO2 emissions which traditional pads have. We plan to scale up to meet the demand both in India and abroad (starting in the US and the EU). Check us out on social media @saathipads!
