A few years ago, terms like Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability, and Circular Economy were not very popular in India, consciousness about products we use and the sustainability of them was once the concern only to some niche groups within society. They have proliferated in the last few decades, which has also changed the consumer purchase behavior such that 81% of consumers are interested in purchasing eco-friendly or organic products.

There are many organizations making essential contributions to the environment, society and the sustainability of India. They are putting all efforts to facilitate the conditions under which humans and nature can co-exist, while still satisfying the social, health and environmental needs of present and future generations. We have met many such organizations throughout the past few years and wanted to share a short list of some of the ones making the most impact!

We are highlighting organizations which are balancing their development with minimal or no impact on Mother Earth. It is a business striving to reduce pollution or the other major negative impacts on our non-renewable resources and working for improved standards of living with sustainable solutions.

Delhi NCR, Aadhan is a social enterprise trying to create impact in the recycled infrastructure space, by recycling old shipping containers into eco-friendly, mobile infrastructure. They design buildings which can be sent to any location in the country. These structures are made from shipping containers retired from their tenure at sea, and other environmentally friendly materials, emphasizing a culture of sustainability.
Bangalore,  The major focus of the company is utilization of locally generated waste and by products of agro-industries and palm oil industries and to develop value added products like omega-3 fatty acids for human and animal application and feed additives for aqua, poultry cattle and swine.
The company acknowledges the support and encouragement received from Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC-GoI) under the Biotechnology Industry Partnership programme (BIPP) scheme for the scaling up of the PoC developed through the BIG project.
Uttarakhand, Â Nestled in the Kumaon region of the Indian Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, Avani is a community built on the principles of sustainability and local empowerment. A global network of diverse employees, interns and volunteers give life to Avaniâs community-centric rural development programs. Avani creates opportunities for rural women and men to find viable employment through a self-sufficient and environmentally sustainable supply chain. In a region where small farms are many families only source of income, Avani is a hub of opportunity; constantly developing new approaches to sustainable, conservation-based livelihood generation for rural communities.

Karnataka, Daily Dump was started in 2006, with the vision to constantly re-imagine relationship with the earth, with each other and with urban spaces. Essentially, they are in the mindset changing business - mindsets about âwasteâ, about marginal livelihoods, about whose job it is to take care of âwasteâ, about how we can harmless, etc. DAILY DUMP is a design led company where they use design to help imagine alternative scenarios that can help change behavior.  Their objective is to reduce waste, improve material recovery, enable better livelihoods and to do this through the voluntary collective action of urban citizens.
Gujarat,  Delivers the wholesomeness of an organic, eco-friendly bazaar to your doorstep, at your convenience. They help you choose a healthy life and more importantly bring you a wide range of certified organically grown foods and eco-friendly products right to your home; away from the uncertainty of chemically grown, genetically modified food and products. Currently growing their base in Gujarat, they wish to spread organic goodness across India.
NavAlt Solar & Electric Boats Pvt. Ltd. is based in Kochi, India. NavAltâs vision is to make marine transport more efficient by drastically reducing the energy and resources needed for building and operation. They have designed boats and ferries combining advancements in Electric Vehicle technology, marine design and Photovoltaics so that they run on solar energy. NavAlt envisions a more efficient water transport system which doesnât use fossil fuels.

Gujarat, Oizom is an Environmental Solution Company. Started with a life-centric approach, Oizom builds data-driven solutions for natural resources like Air, Water, Soil, Energy etc. By evolving with technology and through extensive R&D, Oizom Instruments aspires to set a class apart in its measurement accuracy and precision. Through an ecosystem of products, Oizom Instruments aims to make the environment understandable and predictable. Mumbai, S4S Technologies is the food preservation company that invents new food processing machines. They sell these machines to farmers or use these machines at their own facility to produce the best quality processed food. S4S Technologies work with a range of partner organizations to create a sustainable supply of processed food products. Their technology includes a Solar Conduction Dryer, Haldi Tech, SmartDry, and Frost Dry.
